About Us
History And Mission
Greenpeace is the leading independent campaigning organization that uses non-violent direct action and creative communication to expose global environmental problems and to promote solutions that are essential to a green and peaceful future.
Founding
Greenpeace began in 1971, when a small but determined group of activists boarded an aging 80-foot boat, slowly making their way through the cold North Pacific waters off Alaska. Their mission was to "bear witness" to the destructive nuclear weapons testing planned for Amchitka Island. Little did they know they had just created what was to become the largest environmental movement in the world.
Mission and Work
For over 30 years, Greenpeace has tackled the most critical environmental issues. At Kill the Drill, we want to expose drilling for what it is -- an old, outdated and unreliable solution to our energy needs that harms our environment and puts endangered species at risk of extinction. If these oil and gas corporations have resorted to drilling on our public lands, then it is clear that they wil stop and nothing to profit from the destruction of our last natural areas. Only by supporting clean and renewable energy (such as wind, solar, biomass, geothermal and other alternatives) can we stop this trend of destructive profit and move toward a clean, healthy future.
How Greenpeace is Funded
Greenpeace does not accept donations from government or corporations. Our 250,000 members in the United States and 2.5 million members worldwide form the backbone of our organization. If you support a clean and healthy future for us and our children, please feel free to leave a donation. |
