Kill the Drill on Padre Island
Help the world's most endangered sea turtle!
Currently, BNP Petroleum is planning to drill for natural gas on Padre Island in south Texas. Not only is Padre Island a National Seashore visited by 800,000 Americans each year, but it is also the nesting ground for the most endangered sea turtle in the world, the Kemp's Ridley. The last two drilling attempts within the last 20 years have come up dry. In addition, the last time BNP tried to drill on Padre Island for natural gas, they left radioactive equipment on the island -- eventually burying it in the area. National Seashores fall under federal jurisdiction, and are considered to be protected public land.
Don't let legal loopholes allow the U.S. government to open up Padre Island to fossil fuel interests! Try to do as many of these actions as you can. You don't have to do them all at once, but remember what is at stake.
Option #1
Use our online form
to fax and e-mail the Secretary of the Interior, Gale Norton, demanding she revoke BNP Petroleum's drilling permit.
Don't wait until there's nothing left.
Option #2
After sending an online fax, you can write Gale Norton directly by writing to:
Honorable Gale Norton Secretary U.S. Department of the Interior 1849 C Street NW Washington, DC 20240
Or call her directly at: (202) 208-7351
Option #3
Call your Representatives and Senators
and demand they protect our public lands and national seashores.
And Of Course
Last but not least, make sure you tell your friends, family and coworkers about this site and why Kemp's Ridley,
the smallest and
most endangered
sea turtle one Earth, needs to be saved from the destructive practices
of BNP Petroleum -- all for one day's worth of natural gas!
Every fax, letter and e-mail counts so do it now!
