This fall, Barbara and Paul Petroleum (BNP), plans to start drilling for natural gas on Padre Island, one of only ten National Seashores in the United States. Although South Padre Island is already developed, Padre Island remains one of the most pristine, undeveloped barrier islands in the world. We must put pressure on the Bush Administration demanding they Kill the Drill not only on Padre Island, but all of our public lands.    Kill the Drill on Padre Island
BNP Petroleum wants to drill on
our National Seashores even though it
could cause significant damage to
the home of 11 endangered species.
Profile of a Corporate Beach Driller
BNP Petroleum abandoned a radioactive drill bit at a well on Padre Island National Seashore in 2002, yet they want to drill more extensively on Padre Island. For one day's worth of natural gas, they will drive huge trucks such as 18-wheelers through the nesting site of the world's most endangered sea turtle and drill on only one of two remaining habitats for the Kemp's Ridley.   Read about the company that wants
to drill on our National Seashores.

People often have a hard time grasping just how risky and damaging drilling can be. Here is a classic example of how drilling can go horribly wrong. This example shows how a small crew of drillers can be responsible for about $45 million dollars in property damage, the complete flooding of a nature reserve and the drainage of a lake.  Read about our featured drilling disaster--

Ruptured Oil Tanker Sinks Off Coast of Spain Global Warming Crimes Unit
A ruptured tanker carrying 77,000 tons of fuel oil, almost twice the amount that spilled from the Exxon Valdez, has split in two and begun to sink off of Spain's coast. "If it sinks, there will be a time bomb at the bottom of the sea," said Greenpeace official Maria Jose Caballero.   Ruptured Oil Tanker Sinks Off Coast of Spain
